Gerry has led many important 4WD expeditions throughout the deserts of Australia. He led the first vehicle expedition to trace Cecil Madigan’s 1939 Camel Expedition across the Simpson Desert and has retraced many of our early explorers’ journeys.
He has shown the wonders of Central Australia to world famous specialists in geology, botany, science and astronomy.
His travels have meant that he has become a qualified “bush mechanic” and an all round fix-it man. Gerry has written field notes on the geology and paleantology; botany, including bush medicine and bush tucker; and flora and fauna of Central Australia.
Corinne has a Degree in Visual Arts and Post Graduate Diplomas in Art Education and Arts Management. Corinne began her art teaching career in senior high schools in NSW and later in TAFE. She developed and taught the textiles major in the BA Visual Arts, at the Northern Rivers CAE (now Southern Cross University in Lismore) and briefly taught Cultural Tourism at the University of Technology, Sydney. After leaving art teaching and travelling overseas Corinne returned to Sydney and worked in corporate/management planning in TAFE NSW. She then joined Arts Training Australia, a national organisation responsible for policy and planning for the arts and cultural industries. As an exhibiting artist, Corinne's arts practice focuses on textiles and sculpture.
Corinne joined Gerry and the Sandrifter family 15 years ago. Corinne endeavours to make sure you have everything you need for a safe, comfortable and enjoyable trip. She enjoys exploring and sharing information about vegetable dyeing from desert plants and other textile activities in camp. Back at home, Corinne keeps the office running, the phones answered, the books balanced and the dogs fed and exercised. If time permits she also continues her own art practice. Both Gerry and Corinne have completed Senior First Aid and Remote Area First Aid training.
